2: The world of Avatar features benders who can control one of the four elements (fire, earth, water, air), the Avatar who can control all of them, and nonbenders who are unable to control any of them. Although divided into Four Nations, benders of different elements and nonbenders alike would eventually integrate into the diverse Republic City.
The Equalist movement, formerly led by Amon, recognized the disparity between the lives of benders and nonbenders. Their ideology believed that bending was used as a tool of oppression and was the cause of conflict. Amon sought a world where all bending was taken away from benders, a technique he learned because he was exposed as a bender himself. This power was used to target notable benders, whether the heads of criminal groups or the Avatar herself. The movement also uses mecha technology as well as chi-blocking to block the abilities of a bender when in combat. Amon was eventually defeated by Avatar Korra and died from an explosion, but the movement remains despite not being as significant as before.
